Touch World Cup 2011

I spent a very enjoyable week working at The Touch World Cup at Peffermill in Edinburgh.  Don’t mention the R world – Rugby.  It's touchdowns, not a try and there are mixed teams.  Oh, and Australia and New Zealand dominate!

This was the largest Touch World Cup to date with 27 Nations competing in 7 competitions.  Early starts were the order of the day as we had to build the PA system each morning to cover 10 pitches so that the 3 MC’s could be heard and, importantly, the Hooter which signalled the start and end of each match.  There was a fantastic team of volunteers working at the event and an incredible atmosphere created by the 1500 people taking part.

Each day there was a strict schedule to be met and the tunes played an important part in setting the scene and building the atmosphere.  The first matches tapped-off at 7:40am each day and as I recall, we went on until 9pm on the Saturday  Throughout the week there was a TV Crew filming and I was briefly interviewed, explaining what my role was.  I look knackered as it had been a start that day!  Key announcements were "One Minute to the start of play" and "Players and Officials, Teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen Seconnnnnnnnds".

And so to the tunes played during the week.  Far from comprehensive, but this gives a flavour....
