Edinburgh Rugby v Ulster Playlist


Edinburgh Rugby fell to their first home defeat since September as they were narrowly beaten 20-17 by 13-man Ulster at BT Murrayfield.

A try from Phil Burleigh gave Edinburgh an early lead before Ruan Pienaar replied for the visitors with a short range score after 14 minutes. Pienaar and Tom Heathcote traded penalties as neither side succeeded in gaining the upper hand in a cagey opening half, but Edinburgh took a tight 14-10 lead in at the break.

Heathcote indeed misfired heavily from the kicking tee and missed a total of six kicks at goal. Ulster then pounced early in the second period and through a converted Darren Cave try, took the lead.

Ulster centre Stuart McCloskey was then sent off for a tip-tackle, and a further yellow card for Franco van der Merwe meant the Irishmen finished the match with 13 men. But sloppy Edinburgh errors, coupled with a lack of composure ensured the match winning try remained elusive.
